OPENING OF THE EXHIBITION: PAINTER OF ROWING AND SAILING. JOAN SALA LLOBERAS (1925-2010)

30 March 2023 19:00 h Can Saragossa

The work of Joan Sala Lloberas (Lloret de Mar, 1925 - 2010) captures the essence of the sea and its people in his brushes. Born into a family of fishermen, he soaked up the light of the sunrises and the calm of the sunsets. A palette of colours that inspired him in his long and fruitful career as a painter. With his trade of fishing in blood and his salty back, he knew how to capture the magic of the waves. Scenes that present us with the backdrop of a seafaring village that had yet to see the change that tourism would mean for the everyday character. Landscapes, streets and squares, which ooze past lives and old customs. And the sea, its unforgettable sea, always present in all its splendour. A slope with an unmistakable profile traced thousands of times by the sea and known by him like the back of his hand. A way of reviving the lost identity of a Lloret that today may seem romantic and picturesque. Characters and voices from the past that evoke the afternoons he spent gazing at the sea from Sa Caleta in the last years of his life.

Event organised by: Cultural Heritage Department of Lloret de Mar Town Council. Exhibition curated by the art historian Marina Garcia i Carbonell.
